In 2006, entrepreneur Marcel Boekhoorn and his company Mountain Media established ‘De Pers’, the first free, quality newspaper in the Netherlands.
Even though De Pers was known as refreshing, of high quality and original, the commercial exploitation by publisher Royal Wegener remained structurally behind expectations. In consultation with Mountain Media, Wegener decided to end the operations contract from 2009, which lead to the end of newspaper De Pers on the 30th of March 2012.
During this turbulent period, Maussen Communications & Public Relations, part of the Dutch PR Group, acted as the PR advisor of Mountain Media. The press release we composed and distributed among the media was published on the front page of De Pers, with which they announced the news to their own readers.
